Front Yard Landscaping Ideas

Do you need front yard landscaping ideas? The front yard often starts with curb appeal. How does it look to your friends and family? If you want something different, there's lots of things you can do.

Driveway Landscaping Ideas

Front yards can always be enhanced by creating an entry. I love designing driveway entries. Whether it's a column on either side of the drive or two curving walls, it's a charming feature.

Anything you create along the driveway, create boldly. When you're driving along, you won't notice tiny features. A hedge, a large column, a bold swath of flowers all will get noticed.

Container Garden Design

The easiest front yard landscaping ideas begin with containers. Go bold, coordinate with your style, and have fun.

Containers in the front of your home really enhance the entire look. Choose something that can be left out all year. This will offer a place for changing décor with the seasons.

Pine boughs in the winter, pumpkins in the fall, annuals all summer -- the right container will be perfect for all of this and more. Choosing larger containers is a good idea, too. Make sure they can be seen from the drive or the street.

Curb Appeal Landscaping Ideas

Curb appeal is about making guests to your home feel comfortable. Can they easily see the front door? Do you need additional lighting?

Curb appeal can increase the value of your home, also. This is where the right designer might really make a difference. Curb appeal is the first impression for potential buyers. Invest well.

Landscape Lighting Design

Lighting is crucial for curb appeal. It also can increase your sense of security. Dramatic front yards highlight the best features of your home at night. Light up the front door area.

First step? Take a walk outside when it's dark. Really look at your home. Is the front door easy to see? Is your home welcoming and well lit or dark and potentially unsafe?

Landscape lighting design showcases your home and creates a welcome for guests. It doesn't light too much, but it highlights the best. Effortless and beautiful, it doubles the potential enjoyment of your gardens.

Water features

Water features in the front yard increase the drama easily. Even tiny water features near the front door will charm guests. If this is the item for you, plan well. Some water features (like waterfalls) require more maintenance.

If your house is on a hill, you've got potential for traffic-stopping waterfalls. Plan well so you know your investment will be worth it.

Garden Sculpture

Beautiful, large artwork always draws the eye. Whether you've brought back treasures from abroad or just want your front yard landscaping ideas to be one of a kind, think garden sculpture.

For Minnesota, outdoor sculpture needs to work year round. Choosing something that can be safely left outside doubles the enjoyment. Your landscaping in the front should enhance the artwork.

Hillside Landscaping Ideas

Hillside homes have much potential for front yard landscaping ideas. Terracing is my favorite way to enhance this type of home. Ensuring that you invest in quality landscaping starts with design.

If you're on a hillside, don't block your views with trees. A great view is part of the value of your home. In addition, if you have a large front yard, make sure the view from the drive and the street is gorgeous.

Instead of driving, take a walk up the driveway. The slower pace may reveal what you've been missing.

Minnesota Landscape Designers

A design consultation might help if you're stuck for front yard landscaping ideas. Better yet, have your front yard landscaping ideas designed. You'll reap the benefits of a quality design for years.

Every time you pull into the drive. Every time guests come over. Even should you decide to move on, the curb appeal and beauty of your front yard will grow each year.
