How Do You Become a Certified Landscape Designer?Join the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD) and your local APLD chapter. APLD provides the only international certification program for landscape designers. Set yourself apart from the rest by becoming a Certified Landscape Designer. Use this distinction as a marketing tool. Enhance your professional image. Increase your customer recognition and respect. The APLD was founded in 1989 with the mission "to advance the profession of landscape design and to promote the recognition of landscape designers as qualified and dedicated professionals." Currently 20% of APLD members are certified. Start this season by documenting your very best projects and set a goal to earn the distinction. EligibilityCertification elegibility is open to all Associate APLD members in good standing who have a minimum of four years professional landscape design experience and an educational background in the area of landscape design. Once you meet these criteria, you have the opportunity to become a certified landscape designer and receive the professional recognition accorded those who meet the standards of excellence set forth by APLD. EvaluationThe certification process is not an educational curriculum; it is a process to evaluate your submitted work. First you submit your application for Certified Professional Membership together with three installed projects. Each should include a design intent statement, drawing, plant list, and before and after photographs. Then your submission is evaluated by the APLD Certification Review Panel. When your application for Certified Professional membership has been evaluated and approved, you earn the distinction of using APLD after your name in recognition of your qualifications. Certification is maintained through continuing educaton units (CEU's). Learn more about how you become a certified landscape designer at the APLD website. D.A.Esteness, APLD / landscapes by dae
